A four-hour standoff ended peacefully Saturday and resulted in the arrest of one person.

Caldwell County Sheriff's Office Lt. Aaron Barlowe said detectives responded to 2950 Ransom Cardwell Lane, Lenoir, shortly after 12:30 p.m. when a woman reported that she was being threatened with a gun. When officers arrived, Barlowe said no one was injured, but the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office SWAT team responded at approximately 2 p.m. as backup. Barlowe said the stand-off lasted for more than four hours, but officers made contact with 48-year-old James Everette Rowe through the assistance of the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Rowe, of the same residence, surrendered and was apprehended without incident.

Rowe has been charged with assault by pointing a gun, interfering with emergency communications, possession of a firearm by a felon and communicating threats. Rowe remains confined to the Caldwell County Detention Center under an $8,000 secured bond. He made his first District Court appearance Monday, and is expected to appear again on Tuesday, March 30.

"Our officers handled this incident very well, and I think everything went smooth," Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones said. "The important thing to remember is that no one was hurt, which we are grateful for."

Barlowe said there is no recent history of domestic-related calls to the couple's home, but reports indicate that an argument between Rowe and his wife may have contributed to the incident. He also noted that several guns were collected from the scene.
