Letters to the Editor
I’m sitting here watching the news about Haiti, and I can’t believe how fast they are getting help from our government (I’m not saying don’t help), and we couldn’t get water for four days to American people in our own country (Katrina). This government does not care about our people anymore. The bailout of banks proved that. When the government could’ve given each family in this country a nice piece of money. And we would’ve paid off mortgages and credit cards to bring back the economy. But that would’ve been too easy.

P.S. All politicians don’t care once they get in office!
Thanks for park work
We in Yadkin Valley now have a good place for families and friends to get together to fellowship and have fun. The Community Park is located on highway #268 near Fort Defiance. We’ve had several community fundraisers barbecue lunches, family reunions, ball games and other activities. I’ve even taken my dog to swim in the river at the park a few times these past few years
The project originally began in the 1960s. Somehow the ball was dropped and lay in the weeds for many years. I’m sure many others in the community feel the same as I do when I say, “I appreciate the hard work some of you did.” I thank James Winkler and George Church in particular for their leadership in making it happen. In 2005 they picked up the ball and ran with it. I know there were others who helped. I’m sure thanks are due to Alan Walsh for the use of his equipment.
The Board of Directors consists of James Winkler, George Church, along with Charles and Lorraine Minton, Lacy Brown and Dennis Watson. These folks put a lot of time and effort into this “Labor of Love” for our community. I apologize for failing to mention some of you. The reason being I did so little to help, I don’t know all of those who did.
To all who helped in any manner ... I “thank you”
Bob Church
