Hibriten netters win, move on

The Hibriten tennis team moved into the third round of the 2-A dual team state playoffs Tuesday with a 5-3 win over North Wilkes.

The match came down to a lengthy No. 6 singles match that outlasted one doubles match that started following another singles match. Hibriten's Wesley Bradford topped Dylan Atwood in the match 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. The Panthers and Vikings did not play the No. 3 doubles match because the match result had already been decided.

Hibriten's top three singles players - Avery Nelson, Huntley Nero and Chris Clark - all won Tuesday. Nelson and Nero, regional champions and state qualifiers in doubles play, combined to win the No. 1 doubles match.

Hibriten will play again next Tuesday, possibly against CVAC foe Newton-Conover.
