Give mom a hug and kiss; it's her day
Mothers don't ask for much. In fact, they mostly give of themselves, even when it might be their turn to take rather than receive. That's part of the reason Mother's Day is so important. It's the one chance all year for mom to walk past the sink full of dirty dishes and not feel bad at all about leaving them sit (better yet, why doesn't someone else give mom a break and do them?). It's a day to eat at her favorite restaurant, one without cardboard containers and the question “Do you want fries with that?” It's a day when hand-painted knick-knacks and glittery construction paper cards become priceless heirlooms. It's a day that deserves a phone call or letter, no matter how far apart (geographically or emotionally) mother and child might be. It's a day I plan to begin by giving my mom and the mother of my two children a big hug and kiss. Whatever you plan to do today, don't forget about the person who gave you life, mended your wounds and is partially responsible for whatever blessings you enjoy. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. Edward Terry Editor eterry@newstopic.net
